The Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has disbursed N2 million to 63 beneficiaries as part of efforts reduce poverty in the state.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Yardada Bichi, said at the distribution exercise in Kano on Tuesday that the beneficiaries were drawn from 15 local government areas of Kano.
The grant, she said, was to assist the needy in meeting diverse demands such as in education, health, marriage, rent and natural disaster.
“The responsibility of the ministry is to ensure the welfare of the populace, considering the increasing number of financial constraints our people are faced with.
“This is the first batch; the Ministry of Women Affairs would continue with the second batch of providing cash for the needy based on various demands,” she said.
Bichi also said the ministry was planning another round of distribution of food items to selected indigent persons to boost its poverty reduction initiatives.
The commissioner commended Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje for his untiring support and urged the beneficiaries to utilise the cash released in solving their immediate needs.
According to her, such support by the state government will go a long way to minimise the level of social vices in the state.
Bichi also called on individuals, corporate bodies and other stake holders to complement the efforts of the state government by organising similar initiatives for the needy.
